Introduction

Breaking new! Do you want to study Chinese in China with full scholarship? Do you want to study a degree program (bachelor, master and doctor) taught in English or Chinese in China with a full scholarship? I now present you South China University of Technology (SCUT). SCUT now offers three kinds of scholarships (full & partial) for both non-degree and degree programs. If you get a full scholarship, it means you don't need to pay registration fee, tuition, and accommodation fees on campus. Moreover, you will get a decent monthly living allowance. The opportunities are limited, so wait no more, just start your application as soon as possible!

Here are the programs available for the scholarships in SCUT:

Scholarship for Non-degree Programs

1. Basic Information

Scholarship Name: Confucius Institute Scholarship
Quota: 40
Application Deadline: 1st May for 2016 Autumn Intake and 2017 Spring Intake (the scholarship is no longer available for 2016 Spring Intake)
Scholarship range: Only awarded to the One-semester and One-academic year Chinese language General or Intensive program of SCUT.
Scholarship coverage:

  • Exempt from registration fee, tuition, and accommodation fees on campus.
  • Monthly living allowance: RMB 2,500
  • Comprehensive Medical Insurancefor International Students in China.
Censorship: Successful applicants will be shortlisted and results will be submitted to Hanban for final approved.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizen aged above 18 with high school diploma and in good health.
b. Scholarship for One-Semester Students: Applicants should achieve a score of at least 120 on the HSK (level 2) and at least 40 on the HSKK (primary level), or at least 100 on the BCT (A) and at least 120 on the BCT (spoken Chinese).
c. Scholarship for One-Academic Year Students: Applicants should achieve a score of at least 180 on the HSK (level 3) and at least 60 on the HSKK (primary level), or at least 180 on the BCT (A) and at least 180 on the BCT (spoken Chinese).

3. Application Documents

Applicants must submit their documents according to the following instructions:

1. Confucius Institute Scholarship Application Form.

2. Photocopy of valid passport.
With name, passport number & expiration date, and photo included.
3. Passport photo.
A recent passport-sized photo of the applicant.
4. Application statement.
Indicating the applicant's Chinese learning background and study plan in China. It should be no less than 400 words for the one-semester Study Scholarship applicants, no less than 800 words for the One-Academic year Study applicants.
5. A copy of the new HSK and HSK result report.
6. High School Diploma and transcripts.
Certificate and transcripts should be in notarized translations in Chinese or English.
7. Reference Letter and Letter of Commitment.
Students attending Chinese language programs of universities in countries with no Confucius Institutes established shall attach a reference letter signed and issued by the university President.
8. Physical Examination Form.

9. Other document.
Applicants under the age of 18 should submit letters of approval and provide the emergency contact number for their legal guardians in China.

Note: All documents mentioned should be in either Chinese or English.

Scholarship for Degree Programs

Instruction: SCUT offers Chinese Government Scholarship for Postgraduate Students and SCUT International Scholarship for Excellence for its degree programs. If students failed to apply the Chinese Government Scholarship for Postgraduate Students, SCUT will offer a second chance: you can continue to apply the SCUT International Scholarship for Excellence. However, there is a greater probability of applying the SCUT International Scholarship for Excellence, for it doesn't require students too much as the Chinese Government Scholarship does.

1. SCUT International Scholarship for Excellence

1) Basic Information

Scholarship Name: SCUT International Scholarship for Excellence.
Quota: 50.
Application Deadline: 30th May, 2016.
Scholarship range: Awarded to all the degree programs (apart from MBA) of SCUT.
Scholarship coverage: A full or partial exemption from tuition and registration fees for the normal duration of the degree.
Censorship: South China University of Technology.

2) Eligibility

a. Applicants must be non-Chinese national and be in good health.
b. Applicants studying to earn a Bachelor’s degree must have high school diploma and be under the age of 30.
c. Applicants studying to earn a Master’s degree must have a Bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
d. Applicants studying to earn a Doctorate degree must have a Master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

Note: Applicants, who has not yet passed the HSK test of required level, could apply for studying 1-year Chinese program. The tuition of the Chinese study could be exempted.

Certificate should be in notarized translations in Chinese or English.
5. Relevant notarized transcripts.
Transcripts should be in notarized translations in Chinese or English.
6. Relevant Chinese or English language proficiency test certificate.

7. Reference letters.
Applicants must submit two reference letters in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors (postgraduate applicants only).
8. Physical Examination Form.
Must be filled in English or Chinese. You can download a template or sample from here.
9. A study or research plan.
Written in Chinese or in English (postgraduate applicants only, no less than 500words).

5) Evaluation for Retention

a. Scholarship holders should attend the annual evaluation organized in each May.
b. Those who are in good standing and have fulfilled the annual evaluation requirement can maintain the scholarship for the next academic year.
c. Those who fail to reach the above requirements will be transferred to the status of self-funding students, but can attend the next evaluation to apply for the scholarship in the next academic year.

b. Applications for music are required to submit one cassette recording of the applicant’s own work.
c. Applications for fine arts must submit six color photographs of personal works.

2. Chinese Government Scholarship for Postgraduate Students

1) Basic Information

Scholarship Name: Chinese Government Scholarship for Postgraduate Students
Quota: 60.
Application Deadline: 10th April, 2016.
Scholarship range: Awarded to all the Master and Doctoral programs (apart from MBA) of SCUT.
Scholarship coverage:

  • Exempt from registration fee, tuition, and accommodation fees on campus.
  • Monthly living allowance: RMB 3,000 for Master’s degree students and RMB 3,500 for Doctorate degree students;
  • Comprehensive Medical Insurancefor International Students in China.
Censorship: China Scholarship Council.

2) Eligibility

a. Applicants must be non-Chinese national and be in good health.
b. Applicants studying to earn a Master’s degree must have a Bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
c. Applicants studying to earn a Doctorate degree must have a Master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
