Basic information

Fee structure

Shanghai Ocean University(SHOU), a multi-disciplinary institution, focuses on the coordinated development of degree programs in agriculture, science, engineering, etc. SHOU maintains close partnerships with universities and international organizations from the US, Japan, Russia, Australia, South Korea. As early as 1955, Shanghai Ocean University began enrolling overseas students. Today, it regularly accepts international students, including those awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship and Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship. 

Campus Environment

Shanghai Ocean University is located at Hucheng Ring Road, Lingang New Town, Pudong New District, Shanghai. The basic living and functional facilities on campus are sound and complete.

The facilities in Shanghai Ocean University are first class and the dedications have also maintained steady development.

SHOU adjusted the curriculum of Food Science & Engineering to allow those with no background in Chinese to complete these Bachelor Degree Programs within a 4-year period. In their first academic year, students will be immersed in intensive Chinese preparatory courses, and over the following 3 years will focus primarily on their major specific academic courses.

 

Traning Target

Nurture students in chemical, microbiology, food engineering and food technologies skills. With these skills, they will be exposed to jobs like food manufacturing technologies management, quality control, product development, scientific research and engineering design, expanding of food industries and sensory evaluation.

Core Courses: Principles of Food Engineering, Food Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food Analysis, Food Processing, Food Nutrition, Biological Detection Technology, Food Machinery and Equipment, Food Sensory Evaluation, Raw Food Materials, Principles of Food Preservation, Food Security

Experimentation and Practice

Physics Experiment, Basic Chemistry Experiment, Organic Chemistry Experiment, Instrument Analysis Experiment, Biochemistry Experiment, Experimentation of Food Engineering Principles, Food Microbiology Experiment, Food Analysis Experiment, Production Practices.

Career Plan
Upon graduation, students will be able to engage in scientific research, technical development, engineering design, production management, quality control, inspection and quarantine, educational teaching, and other aspects of food production and industry.

Dormitory

SHOU provides international students with two types of dormitories -- International Apartment No.1 and International Apartment No. 2. All rooms in Apartment No.1 are arranged as single units containing 4 rooms each. Each 4-room unit shares a common bathroom equipped with 2 showers (hot water), sink, and 3 toilets. Each room in Apartment No.2 is equipped with its own private bathroom offering hot water 24 hours a day.

Canteen

There are three canteens together on the campus and the Muslim Dining Room on the second floor in Canteen No. 2.  The price is about 20RMB/day in the canteens, and about 35RMB/dayin the Muslim dining room.

Activities

You can participate in colorful activities at Shanghai Ocean University, such as dragon boat racing, summer festivals and other activities.  

Vicinity

There is a bus stop at the exit of the school gate No. 6, the transportation is very convenient.  And there are also banks, hospitals, post office, police station around the university.

The campus of SHOU is not that far from the downtown. It offers students both a quiet studying environment and convenient transportation.

3. Can I get to the university ahead of time?

You are suggested to arrive at school on time in fear of no available dormitory for you and can’t apply for the resident permit.

4.What is the class schedule?

Classes start at 8:15 in the morning and end at 4:20 in the afternoon. It’s 45 minutes per class.
